Oke-Ogun Farmers Complete Training and Applied for AGSMEIS Loan

Livestock and Crop farmers in Oke-Ogun region of Oyo state smiled home with their certificates after successful completion of a 3-day Entrepreneurship Training organized by Fund for Agribusiness Team and facilitated by Small & Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN).

For 3 days, the farmers were actively engaged in learning, discussion and group assignments. The training which was held at the legislative building, Saki West local government secretariat, Saki commenced on Monday 11th February, 2019 and was brought to a close on Wednesday 13th February, 2019.

SMEDAN being an accredited Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI) by Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) availed their best hands to train and access the farmers for the 3 days.

Mrs. Ojogbede Iyabo, the Prinicipal Enterprise Officer, Oyo State Manager for SMEDAN awarded Certificates to farmers and screened their AGSMEIS loan applications for corrections and guidance.

While speaking with LivestockTrend Correspondent, the Chairman, All farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) Saki West Local government, Hon. Owoade Idowu said the participants were trained on effectively utilization of credit facilities, repayment techniques, record keeping for their businesses and so on. 

He added that the farmers are aware of numerous beneficiaries of AGSMEIS loan in the Northern region of Nigeria and beckoned on the concerned parastatal to help accelerate the disbursement of this fund to South West farmers.

Mr. Fawole Oluwagbenga, the Director of Agriculture, Saki West Local government, applauded the initiative and assured farmers that Saki West local government will continue to support programs that have positive impact on farmers’ revenue.

He added that the participants present were the first batch of interested farmers from 10 councils in Oke Ogun and are now trained on marketing, opportunities and profit maximization techniques in farming business. 

The National Coordinator for Fund for Agribusiness, Dr. Ayo Omotoso, has however announced that the 2nd batch of this training for Oke-Ogun farmers is scheduled to hold in March 2019 in Iseyin local government while that of Osun farmers will commence on Wednesday 20th - Friday 22nd February, 2019 at SMEDAN office complex, Osogbo, Osun State.
